Øyvind Tangerud is a songwriter and musician from Norway. They say that I was singing in tune before I could walk. If this was my parents dream or the truth, is difficult to say.One thing is certain. Music has always been a dominating part of my life. My first musical instrument was a harmonica. Every sunday I played with my father. The first guitar came in to the house the year I was ten years old. From that moment the guitar was my instrument. I tried the trumpet in the school days, and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to play solo with my school band in N.R.K.`s radio studio. In the teens I stopped playing the trumpet. But my guitar was still a dear friend. The Beatles, Eric Clapton,Jeff Beck and BB.King was the reasons for that.

As the time went on I joined a garage band. In the high school I came in contact with a band that had been on the road for a while. They where young guys and had started when they were 12 years old. They were Norway’s youngest band. I joined the band when I was 16 years old. We were traveling around and played on youth centers in Oslo. In the summer we trawled round in the south of Norway and played. To day my musical taste has been different. Now I like Swing jazz, Bebop, Django Reinhardt, Barny Kessel, Joe Pass and after some time, new guys came along. George Benson, Robben Ford and Larry Carlton. All of them was important to me. I have been in two big bands in Ski, my hometown. A great learning period for me in both of them. I have been writing music for many years now, as you can hear under songs her on my home site.

Siberian Jay

Siberian Jay has been a long time project, but now the first album has finally been released. It’s available worldwide in most of the download-stores (iTunes, Amazon, Nokia Music etc…) and physical CDs are sold in Finnish Record Shop X that ship’s worldwide.

The band consist from five top Finnish freelance musicians, that have been working together on and off in many different bands and projects during last 5-10 years. The album has been composed, engineered and produced by the lead singer Ilari Hämäläinen and the music was arranged together with the band. Mixing of the album was split by Ilari and his brother Lauri.

The music of Siberian Jay is influenced by 30 Seconds to Mars, Foo Fighters, Lostprophets, The Rasmus, Muse and many more. We believe it’s easy to people to approach but lasts for longer listening because of it’s multilevel production and arrangement.

The line up of Siberian Jay had been in Ilari’s dreams for years while playing with the bands like Kengurumeininki, Naked, Pete Parkkonen, Katri Ylander and Megaphone. He found these guys during those years. Lauri from Kemopetrol and Phoenix Effect had always been his favorite bass player besides himself. Miika Colliander from Husky Rescue, Irina, Chisu and Juha Tapio is the finest guitarist in making effective atmospheres and clean twangy guitar parts. For his companion Ilari invited the long lost brother of Slash – Kristian Wahlström from Mighty 44, Teleks and many other bands. He’s the craziest Les Paul fighter that Ilari had ever met. At first they started to record with Apocalyptica’s drummer Mikko Sirén because Ilari, Kristian and Mikko used to have a band called Megaphone earlier. Since Apocalyptica started to push on USA’s market, Mikko was not able to be in Siberian Jay anymore. A natural choice for Mikko was Hannes Pirilä from Katri Ylander’s and Laura Voutilainen’s bands. He is the best beat-drummer Ilari had ever met and with his wrestler-arms he was able to totally meet the requirements of Siberian Jay’s difficult drum parts. This feels like a dream team for getting the right Siberian Jay sound with mighty American style Les Paul guitars and bright and twangy English Telecaster guitars.
