Freudian Slip – Swerp Records Presents

The best place to begin telling the story of Freudian Slip is from the beginning. James O’Callaghan and Brendan Smyth (simply known as Smyth) began jamming in the garage behind Smyth’s house. Sean Henry was later recruited to play bass and Drew Erickson for vocals and guitar. After weeks of writing and practicing, they were ready to record their material. Freudian Slip recorded Sle EP over the span of two snowy nights in the basement of an avid vintage horror movie fan. It was released for free and given out at shows played in back rooms of comic book stores and houses. After a span of playing shows and getting trapped in Kentucky, FS took a break to begin writing new songs.

Sean soon fell of the face of the Earth and Marty Silha filled in his place, reuniting with his former Lights members James and Drew. Practices became longer and more often as new songs were written and old songs were trashed (later to be recycled). This time around, the Slip decided to do the recording themselves, passing Jamie’s iMac and a cheap microphone back and forth between members until Tube Tied was born. Excited to play again, FS booked coffee houses and garages at random parties of friends, making sure their cardboard cutout of Michael Jordan was with them every step of the way.
