Chicago’s Swerp Records Announces Launch Lineup

May 2, 2012 in News by TMC

Swerp Records announced today their official launch lineup and collective release date of May 22nd, in an advance video at www.SwerpRecords.com. Much like a indie-rock Odd Future, the artists of Swerp Records share members, musical virtuosity, collaborative shows, and a warped sense of humor. The label, featuring a collection of seven of Chicago’s finest underground artists, represents the first formal releases from any of these groups.

“I had never heard of any of these bands before but after listening to their soundcloud sampler reel I knew there was something special going on here. There is an unusually high percentage of awesomeness, and I found that the ambition and energy apparent [...] extended to these other bands.” said Farsheed Hamidi-Toosi of Soapbox Music (http://soapboxchicago.com/). “What really grabbed me was the raw energy and musical exploration I was hearing.”

Swerp Records comes from the little-known Chicago south suburban musical community, a lost branch of the city’s musical family tree. For the last six years, the bands of the south suburban scene built a rich history of exceptional musicianship and infamous shows, yet functioned entirely without promotion or representation. Loosely guided by multi-instrumentalist Nnamdi Ogbonnaya (The Para-Medics, Water House, Nervous Passenger, Sooper Secret Side Project) and drummer Brendan Smyth (Water House, Freudian Slip, Nervous Passenger), Swerp’s launch includes three all-new albums, two remastered albums, and new forthcoming releases. STRIVE

Genre: Rock

STRIVE.a band that fuses soaring, meaningful bands like U2 and Switchfoot with the sweeping piano-pop of Billy Joel and Bruce Hornsby
They’ve toured internationally, earned fans on several continents and been compared to megastars like Coldplay and Josh Groban. It’s a highly impressive start for piano-rock band STRIVE considering that it all happened before signing a record deal.

The Chicago-based band is proving that you don’t need a major record label-STRIVE recently released the album FIRE with the independent GoDigital Records-to take the first steps toward global acclaim.

Anjuli Dawn

Genre: Folk/Acoustic
Website: www.anjulidawn.com

While the 24-year old songwriter from Rochester, Michigan laid the groundwork with her driving guitar, bouzouki, and mandolin parts, her music takes on an additional dimension as she incorporates new instrumentation on Give: piano tracks (played by her brother, jazz musician Jesse Elder), and a string section.

As before, Anjuli explores the themes of emotion, integrity, loss, and joy in her lyrics, icing the cake with rich vocals and background harmonies.  “My hope for this project was to create a timeless record that will still be enjoyed 10 years down the road,” says Dawn.

Tim Big Hoss Andrews I am just your typical 6’5″ 300 lb. Stand-Up Comic, Singer / Song Writer who loves fresh air and wide open spaces.depending on where they are of course. I grew up in Doylestown, OH but had to leave because of Urban Sprawl when I heard they were getting a stoplight. I now live in the thriving Metropolis of Litchfield, OH. You may have noticed it on the map.

It’s where the Mason-Dixon Line takes a hard right North then runs scared back South again. The back yard is trees and the front is a cornfield. It’s a great place for my wife and I to raise our 4 beautiful kids. I’ve done a little bit of everything in my life. I’ll pretty much try anything once.but I think it’s safe to say that you won’t see me in any dancing competitions anytime soon.
