With “All The World’s A Stage, award winning percussionist Tom Teasley has created a feast of soundscapes with the rhythms and sounds of instruments from around the world. There are so many colors and textures of the Middle East and Asia. Teasley plays instruments that many have never heard of, including the aquasonic, balafon, bodhran, cajon, didgi-harp, riqq, melodica, coumbek, Korg wavedrum, Roland HandSonic, MalletKat, and bansari whistle. Nice mix of acoustic, and electronic percussion with endless possibilities.

It’s always a treat getting a project from a percussionist, because when you are a supporting musician, your job is to make the lead performer sound as good as possible, and not necessarily to display all of the skills you have within your arsenal of skills. Now, on this 9 track CD, music fans will get to connect with a wide range of exotic sounds, and something as simple as a whistle takes on a different purpose when used for percussion, most notably on the track “Rise Up”. The voice is another interesting ‘instrument’ when applied by Mr. Teasley, not like a beat box but with the techniques used in Indian music, heard on “Fuska and Varuna”. This is a CD that will bring you to new places and you’ll be glad that you took the trip. Happy travels.

World5 – Music Review

World 5 … A stab at your soul with incredible accuracy!

Have you ever tried a long distance relationship? How did that work out for you? How about trying to communicate an idea or thought, only to have the core concept of the idea to be completely distorted by the recipient … hey … doesn’t that happen with MOST politicians? I digress. And I know what you’re thinking right now … what the heck? I thought this was a music review! And I’d have to say to you … patience, young Padawan … a review is more than just words sprawled across a page depicting the essence of a song …. much, much more. Especially when speaking of ‘World 5′.

‘World 5′ is more than just a group of musicians getting together and jamming out. How’s that? you say! Well, they don’t necessarily get together … at least in the physical sense. You see ‘World 5′ is made up of, you guessed it, five musicians from around the world. Literally, around the world. This quintet spans three different continents, 19 time zones, thousands of miles and countless experiences. Now, keep that in mind as you listen to their music (or not) because they never got together once to record their newest album, “Global Experience”. Nope, not once. They all recorded their parts in the comfort of their own homes and shipped the product off to Randy Miller in Houston, Texas, to have it mastered … now that’s awesome.

Now if you’re the sort that enjoys some good Adult Contemporary Rock music then ‘World 5′ has their finger on your pulse. No need to look any further to get your fill on wonderfully structured lyrics, melodically soothing harmonies, and soul grabbing rhythm that bites at the point just beneath the sternum that makes you want to sway uncontrollably into a dance that may just win you a place on Dancing With The Stars … really, I mean it! Of course, my dancing looks more like convulsions, but you get the idea.

My favorite song thus far has got to be “All My Heart”. Why? Because it takes me back to the days of Bruce Hornsby and Mike and the Mechanics. To be honest, I had totally forgotten of those days and this was the sweetest memory jog I’ve had in a very long time. The song has some beautiful harmonies during the course that just makes you want to sing along, and musically …. well, it has everything. Interluding synth that brings the background alive, groovy percussion that borderlines genius, soul soothing guitar work and eclectic piano. How can you not like this song? Really … How can you not?

I have to hand it to “World 5″. I haven’t felt so intrigued by this genre of music in decades and I’ll have to say…I had a hell of a time listening. Keep it coming!

Chis Lavigne Review

Chis Lavigne’s new song, “Simply”, opens with a powerful strike of emotion pouring forth from his guitar that grabs the listener and instantly propels them into a copacetic state of easy listening. In an instant the listener can hear the bluesy influence as Chris’ unique style carries you through the song.

A subtle bass line under the melody of the piano holds the field as Chris lays more of his soul into “Simply” through his heartfelt solo. Well balanced and worth a listen for those into the slow melodic scripts of a blues felt love song.

Siberian Jay Music Review

Every once in a while you come across some music you just have to share with your friends that you just know will impress the hell out of them. In my humble opinion it’s not easy sifting through the masses of independent bands to arrive at that one clique that just stands apart from the rest. With that said I would have to recomend a hard listen to a band from Finland that cools the tediousness of that long search.

“I’m Holding,” from Siberian Jay is a fast paced hard hitting pillar of rockitude that gives way to a level of coolness that eagerly shakes the scale of awesome. The drive and rythm that builds this anthem of rock pours from a contribution of solid guitar and wicked drums.

Interludes of well placed breakdowns add to the wealth of musicality that seems to just easily erupt from this band and holds enough change for any attention deficit rockster to hit repeat on a consistent basis that would burn wholes through the compact disc.

“Colorblind” is another song that has an immense amount of coolness as it rides that edgy line of rock while flowing from verse to chorus. One can’t seem to get enough of the wealth of rythm and change as your carried on your virtual chariot of sound weaving across the landscape of a pleasure islnad in a vast ocean of change. While largely different from “I’m Holding”, Siberian Jay has hit the proverbial nail on the head with these two songs.

Michael Mucklow – Clearly

Michael Mucklow - Clearly Michael Mucklow has been writing original guitar based songs since the day he received his first guitar that arrived on his 16th birthday. He soon migrated to the electric guitar and spent his early years in several original Hard Rock bands. Michael’s easy going calm demeanor makes it hard to picture him playing that style of music, but as Michael says, “It really opened me up to playing with passion and intensity, and I later learned the same can be applied to all forms of music – even very soothing music.”

Michael then made a major transition to playing in a Praise & Worship band. He declares that “The best thing about that experience is that I learned a lot about the musical expression that lives within my own heart.” Michael performed as a solo guitarist on several occasions, where listeners often referred to his playing as, “relaxing, calming and peaceful…even healing.” Michael has come to believe that, indeed, music has the power to “produce a positive impact on one’s spirit.”

I had never heard of a genre called New Age Fingerstyle so when Michael Mucklow sent me his music I was instantly interested. I was about 3 songs in when it dawned on me that there were no lyrics to this music, I was busy chilling out with the absolutely breathtaking guitar work. The guitar sang to you like a it had it’s own voice, soft at times yet powerful enough to bring out the goose bumps down your spine. This is mood music to the max!

Refreshing and positive with a slight hint of spanish twang, this music kept my interest with 12 wonderful tracks that were diverse from one another. Something about this music kept giving me goose bumps, hard to explain I think it might have been the soft yet powerful way the guitar was worked. The production of this music was very clear and crisp and easy to listen to but you might find yourself being visited by the goose fairy.

I would recommend this music to everyone that wants to time a break and enjoy your life from a different soundtrack.

Lastelle – This is What I Do

“lastelle” is singer / songwriter chris lastelle, on lead vocals, guitars and keyboards backed up by some of the best musicians on the Australian music scene today: dave scotland on lead guitar, craig calhoun on bass, scott johnston on drums, mark williams and robyn laou on backing vocals.

Lastelle - This is What I Do He is a sound & music nut. ‘I love everything about it. The song & album title is a catchphrase& the best description of my life. I play, write, make music & sound, collect it & listen to anything & everything all the time. I love playing live, working in the studio, going to gigs, listening to & reading about music between.’

My bother’s from down under have sent me a great sounding cd from the band Lastelle and the land of OZ. Lastelle’s cd “this is what I do” is a wonderful blend of rock and alternative music with a refreshing new sound to it. There are 13 hot tracks on this well produced cd, the case is a work of art that would go well in anyone’s music collection, mine included! All the lyrics are inside the front cover so you sing along with it just like your Barney cd, I like that about it!

The music is highly addictive stuff and should have come with a warning like a pack of smokes. A few of the songs that got my goat are “don’t fit no more” for it’s groovy kick in the gut start! “This is what I do” with it’s hip over the top blend of pop/rock that kept you from start to finish, let’s play that one again! “On my way” had a blues rock sound to it that you will love. My favorite song on this cd was “I must be happy”, it had a rough nasty sound to it’s strings and a dark side I just had to have.

This cd I would recommend to anyone that is sick of the same old sound coming out of their speakers.
