David Champion (30) born in Hartford, CT., began to have an interest in rap music at the age of 8. It wasn’t until 1989, at the age of 12 when he began to write his own lyrics and make songs of his own. His most influential rap artist was Tupac. Being raised in one of Hartford’s most infamous projects (Charter Oak Projects) and having family Problems at a young age is what influenced his style and caused it to be categorized as Hard Core/Street Rap. Atthe age of 15 he began recording at his cousin’s studio. Writing and recording over 50 unreleased songs.

In 1999 David was introduced to a manager affiliated with Geffen Records. He opened up for Mob Deep at Albany State University, in upstate New York, and was given a contract to sign for a record deal with Geffen Records. After having his lawyer look over the contract he was advised not to sign due to discrepancies. This turn of events discouraged him enough to give up. In 2006 when he heard his younger brother’s music being played in the streets of Hartford on local mix tapes, it inspired him to go back in the studio and begin to record again. Now with more life experience and maturity in his voice, he brings listeners on a journey through life from his eyes, with tracks like “My Life” and “I’m Dying” featuring his younger brother.

As he continues to be a solo artist, he linked up with, V.O.S. (Voice Of da Streets), a team of 4 solo rap artist including his younger brother, K-Mezzy and cousin Ron Gangsta. In early 2008, David performed at Hartford’s Annual Summer Fest, opening up for Joe Buddens, with his cousin and fellow V.O.S. member Dre Gutta. It wasn’t until the heat of the summer of 2009 when Mr. Champion was reunited with his younger brother to complete V.O.S. and write, record, and promote themselves as solo artist representing Da Voice-V.O.S. In September of 2010 all of the artist came together to let the community know who they were, by performing at Hartford’s Annual African- American Day Parade. This performance created and enormous response from the people.

Shortly after the parade David put together V.O.S.’s first Mix tape project, featuring his hit singles “Want Me” and “You Can’t Stop Me”. He quickly sold out all of the units. On Thanksgiving Day 2010, David opened up for Max-B at Hartford’s West Indian Social Club with fellow V.O.S. members. Currently you can hear his music on weekly rotation on 89.3 WRTC in Hartford and 88.1 WESU in Middletown, CT. Recently signed management contract with Maxlovn Music Group.

MathYou Ratón Up and Coming

April 8, 2012 in Featured Artist, Hip Hop by TMC

I’m a TEENAGE (16) Rapper/Singer/Songwriter from South Oh, New York City. I believe in making good music with with deep meanings to them. I rap mainly about thing that happens in my life and stuff around that nature, but I also rap/ sing about relationships, money, and reaching my dreams. I also do gangsta rap because i’m still from one of the worst hoods in NYC. I grew up with a single mother, and a dad who smoked weed, and drunk a lot so he isn’t apart of my life. Even though me and my father don’t keep in contact i still keep in touch with my strong Puerto Rican culture.

My main motivation for my music is for my two friends who died in the streets from a shootout. I do it for every story that has been forgotten and dismissed. Everyday someone in my borough gets killed and their often kids like me, so i fight for all my kid who have ever been told that their lives is meaningless, because living in that neighborhood all your teachers and even the polices basically treat you like your life is meaningless. Half Puerto Rican Half Africa American

Animate Objects

Animate Objects Formed when the forces of good and evil procreated to create a delightfully deviant band, Animate Objects embodies the spirit and soul of the new hip-hop generation.

EMCEE CZAR Absolute leads this band of merry men on a trek to El Dorado while stopping by in your towns sampling as much local culture that can be had without inviting litigation.

This isn’t your usual hip-hop act. To make the lyrics difficult to hear, a gang of miscreant delinquents bang on their instruments, creating music sure to strip you of your insecurities while you dance, jump, grab and prod all those around you.

Bishop Wayne Bishop Wayne hails from St. Croix, in the beautiful U.S. Virgin Islands. At the age of 9, he moved with his father to St. Petersburg, Florida and made the short trek to sister city, Tampa his home. He grew up listening to the varied sounds of Bob Marley, Maxi Priest, Shabba Ranks, Mary J. Blige and New Edition. These influences pushed him to create his own brand of alternative R&B. He defines his music as having “no limits or boundaries”.

Writing about intimate affairs such as relationships, his music evokes a common spirit for his listeners to overcome their own personal issues. His love for music was sparked when he began performing backup vocals for his father’s band, an experience that led to writing and performing “Dance Hall” music. Writing and performing for several local acts in St. Croix was just the beginning of his musical accomplishments. To date, his musical distinctions include live radio interviews, fundraiser concerts, television shows and being selected to write and perform a jingle for the world renowned Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball team.

Shiftkit

June 5, 2010 in Hip Hop by TMC

Shiftkit Born and raised in Oakland California, Marquette Hudson started playing instruments at an early age. After listening to music from Grandmaster Flash and Kurtis Blow,Shiftkit started writing his first rhyme at the age of 8 calling himself Kette. Shortly after, he was in school battle rapping with others making a name for himself.By the age of 14 he already had a style that was respected by friends and family. That respect had a friend introduce him to a DJ that worked with many others from different cities.

One of the DJs that were around took note of Shiftkit and started focusing on his songs. In 1992 Shiftkit teamed up with Mac Ted and formed the duo T.K.O. (Ted & Kette form Oakland) with their EP titled “Lets Get Ready To Rumble” on E&T Records.Performing throughout Northern California, the duo was cut short due to Shiftkit’s run in with the law. However in 1995 the former T.R.U member Milk Man, took onShiftkit as
one of his members of “Da Goonz”, then releasing his EP titled “Reminisce” on Major Muzik Records.

It would be a DJ from Shiftkit’s younger days that guided him for the spotlight. DJ Igor Beatz who in 1990 created Bottom of tha Bassment Productions startedrecording Shiftkit first album in 1996. But the law put a constant hold on his career. In 2001 Shiftkit completed his first album titled “You Aint Gotta Like It” with catchy songs like “Sunshine”, “Yo Potna”, “Supacaliforniaphatt”, and the hit “We Ride”.But things took a turn with long time friend Igor Beatz due to misunderstandings.

Still pushing “You Aint Gotta Like It”, Shiftkit stared his own marketing company for underground artist called Equaknox Entertainment. Working with artist like Snatcha and the prominent artist Dr. Illenstein , Shiftkit puts his time and effort into working on his up coming album titled “Automatic” which is due to hit the streets in June of 2010.

Being the one and only of his kind, Shiftkit’s contribute to music has not yet been fully reached, but for the listeners who already know of the talented artist, can confirm that the 38 year old rapper still has what most artist are trying to get. Skills!!!!
